About Us
"We" are Gordon and Denise Holdsworth, both retired UK citizens now living the dream as so many others would like to do.
Our journey through life has been varied, the say the least, our paths have been a mixture of twists and turns, sometimes going round in circles and, at other times, feeling as though we were going backwards but at each junction we made choices to travel together.
This year we plan to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary with all our French and English friends.
We, like so many others, watched the relocation programmes on television - some places we wondered why people would want to live there and others we thought looked lovely - and we found ourselves thinking that, maybe, just maybe, we, too, could look forward to retiring to a place where we would have more hope, more space, less stress, less worry about how to exist on a pension than we would have in UK.
At the time, we were living in Sussex on a fruit-picking farm and we often went into Hastings, Bexhill or Eastbourne to walk along the seafront, have a cup of coffee and just wander about in general.
Quite by chance one day in Hastings we were passing an estate agents' window showing photos of properties in France, so we went in to find out more. As it happened, they weren't handling these properties but they directed us to the agent in Brighton Marina who was. Off we went and we found out that he had a contact in the Limousin area. This agent arranged for us to view nine properties - this house being seen about 5pm at the end of the first day.
We were not able to see the inside as she didn't have the keys but we knew immediately this was what we were looking for. It was mid January, the sun was shining in a clear, blue sky and the house just smiled at us. We asked if we could come back the next morning and take a look inside which we did and from then on we were comparing all other properties to this one. We bought it and moved here at the end of April 2002.
